WindowWise
What we collect
Only what's required to do our one job — telling you when to open or close windows for the place you call home.
- Home anchor coordinates. The latitude/longitude of your home, set by you when you tap "I'm home." Used to fetch weather data for that specific spot. Stored encrypted at rest on our servers if you join a household; otherwise stored only on your device.
- An opaque per-device ID. A random UUID generated on your device the first time you open WindowWise. Used to identify your device when syncing household state. WindowWise is designed to minimize the personal information this identifier is associated with.
- Optional thermostat readings. If you connect a smart thermostat, we read its current temperature and setpoint to make better recommendations. WindowWise does not store your thermostat history on its servers.
- Shared household state (only if you create or join a household): the current windows-open flag, the device ID of the member who toggled it, the home anchor coordinates, and a per-member record containing your chosen display name ("David's iPhone"), device platform (iOS / Android / macOS / Windows), join-date, and last-seen timestamp. Synced via our Cloudflare-hosted backend. Savings totals are stored on your device and are not aggregated on our servers.
- Short-lived invite tokens (only when you tap "Invite a device"): a random 6-character code that expires 20 minutes after creation, single-use, and bound to your household. Discarded immediately after redemption.
What we don't collect
- Your name, phone number, or any login credential to use the app
- Advertising identifiers
- No advertising tracking. No third-party advertising or behavioral tracking.
- Location history (only the single point you anchored as "home")
- Indoor camera, microphone, or any other sensor data
Email addresses are processed only when you choose to give us one — for example, by opting into our pre-launch "notify me at launch" list, by opting into a transactional message about your supporter unlock, or by contacting us at a support address. We do not require an email address to use WindowWise.
Third parties we talk to
- Apple WeatherKit (via our Cloudflare Worker): we send your home coordinates to fetch the current and forecasted weather at that location. Apple receives the coordinates and standard request metadata; WindowWise does not transmit your device ID with these requests.
- Open-Meteo (fallback): same coordinates, same purpose, used only when WeatherKit is unreachable. WindowWise does not transmit your device ID with these requests.
- Smart-home vendors you've explicitly connected (Nest, Honeywell, Home Assistant, SmartThings, Tempest, Ecowitt, and others): credentials and data flow per their respective privacy policies. WindowWise does not act as an intermediary relaying data between these vendors.
- Cloudflare hosts our backend. Cloudflare receives your device's IP address as a side-effect of HTTP traffic. WindowWise does not intentionally retain IP addresses in normal application logs except as needed for security, abuse prevention, or short-term operational troubleshooting.
- Cloudflare KV storage. If you join optional launch-notification or survey flows, your email address and related survey responses may be temporarily stored in Cloudflare-hosted storage used to operate those features.
- Resend (transactional email provider). If you opt in to launch notifications or transactional emails, WindowWise uses Resend to deliver those messages. Resend temporarily processes your email address and message-delivery metadata to provide the service.
- Sentry (optional crash reporting). If you opt in to crash reporting, WindowWise uses Sentry to receive limited technical diagnostic information about application crashes and errors. Optional. Diagnostic only. Not used for advertising.
- App Store and Google Play handle promotional-code redemption. Promotional-code redemption is handled by the respective platform provider.
How long we keep your data
Data stays on your device until you uninstall the app. Household data on our backend is deleted automatically when the last household member leaves. If a household has had no device activity for 365 days, the household record and all its device records are removed.
WindowWise is designed for climates with multi-month dormant stretches (Phoenix summers, Buffalo winters); the 365-day threshold is set to comfortably exceed the longest dormant period for the climates we serve.
Your rights
You can delete all data we hold about your household at any time by leaving the household (Settings → Family Sharing → Leave household). You can delete your device's local data by uninstalling the app.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or export certain personal information. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].
Optional preference features
Optional preference features are disabled by default unless you choose to enable them.
Optional allergy-related preference settings may be considered sensitive information under some privacy laws. WindowWise uses them only to provide the feature you requested and does not sell them or use them for advertising.
Notifications
WindowWise may send occasional server-triggered notifications when weather conditions meaningfully change after a prolonged inactive period. Standard device notification permissions and preferences apply.
Children
WindowWise is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age that requires parental consent in your jurisdiction. If you believe a child has provided personal information to WindowWise, contact [email protected] and we will take appropriate action.

Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if our data practices change. Significant changes will be surfaced in the app on next launch.
